Bible Study and Brownies

My family loves brownies. As a matter of fact, I bake them almost every week; sometimes twice a week because that's how much we love them. I have a little secret recipe of my own that my husband and children go wild over. The chocolater they are, the more they love them!
I’ve always enjoyed having Bible studies in my home with my husband and my two children. My family is the sweetest family int he world and I thank God for them. The nice thing about my children is that I can see their love for my husband and me. I always tell them that my carpet should be worn out by now because they come in our bedroom about one thousand times throughout the week. They just love being around their mom and dad and we love having them around us. When we’re together, we talk about everything.
I love when they come home from school; they both have their own little stories to share with me when they walk through the door where they are greeted with special little treats that I prepare for them everyday. They are ready to gobble up their snacks the minute they walk through the door, but I make sure they wash their hands before touching or eating anything; after being in school all day, I’m sure they are covered with all kinds of germs!!!
Here is what I want to share with you. I decided that if I wanted to help my children live an obedient lifestyle here at home and even when they are away from home, it was up to me to keep God in their hearts wherever they go in life. Going to church on Sundays is nice, but I have found that it isn’t enough and so it just cannot stop there. I have found that there are times when the pastor is preaching, his sermon is just plain old fashioned common sense. I realize that he does not really teach God’s word, but preaches a few choice words from God’s Word. In my heart, I know that there is so much more that we need to know if we are to have a close and personal relationship with our Father and as God speaks to us through His Word, it is vital that we listen.
I want to sink God’s Word into the hearts of my family using biblical principles. I already read the bible, so why not take God’s Word and teach it to your family. Now, there are a lot of things in the Bible that my family and the rest of the world are highly familiar with; for instance, John
My children understand that the Bible is God’s Word, but I want them to have complete knowledge of God’s Word and how they should apply it to their lives. For instance, there will come a time when they will need advice pertaining to a certain situation in their life; I would like for them to be able to go to the Bible to find out what God says about this specific situation in their life; I want them to understand that God speaks to us through our circumstances and I want them to know when God is speaking to them and exactly what it is He is telling them to do; this has great importance to me.
I pray that the Holy Spirit will sink clarity of God’s Word into their hearts and that they will take heed when He does speak to their hearts.
I plan to accomplish this with Bible Study and Brownies.
Every Wednesday, my family and I will gather together at the dining room table, immediately following dinner, to worship God in spirit and in truth. As God’s Holy Spirit speaks to me, I will speak to my husband and my children.
Our first Bible Study was in January of 2007 was about obedience. Obedience to God. We talked about how Peter was obedient to Jesus when Jesus told him to lower the net into the water; we all know what happened next; the power of Jesus poured fish on top of fish into Peter’s net! How truly amazing. Peter’s actions and His response to Jesus were important principles in being obedient.
I will be preparing our next Bible Study today for next week. I am excited. My children enjoyed last night’s study; they even answered many of my questions correctly!!! My 14-year-son gave me most of the answers. I have been blessed with the love of God through the sweet, precious and tender hearts of my family.
Why not think about having a Bible Study and Brownies night in your home. Your family will love it and it will allow all of you to walk together, hand-in-hand, on the path that God has lovingly designed just for you and your family.
Peace and Love in Christ,
Cynthia
